Prop Park Fly-In Draws Aviation Fans

Several hundred aviation aficionados were able to get an up-close look at dozens of planes, including Clay Lacy’s DC-3, a World War II P-52 Mustang, a Stearman biplane, and a variety of Cessna 172s and 182s during the first Prop Park Fly-In in mid-September.

The event, sponsored by The Park VNY in association with VNY Prop and Van Nuys Airport, was held over three days, September 14-16, with the bulk of the public activities taking place on Saturday, September 15. In addition to the planes, the event included a classic car show from the Rodfathers, a speaking program that featured renowned flight instructor and author Rod Machado and a presentation by Barry Schiff.

Behind the scenes bus tours were led by VNY airport guides, and the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 40 offered Young Eagles airplane rides for kids 8-17 years old all day. On Saturday night, there was a special screening of the films “One Six Right” and “Living in the Age of Airplanes.” The event also included a barbecue, food tucks and fundraising pancake breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Ryan Sanders, operations manager of The Park VNY, appeared live from the event on KTLA on Saturday morning. To view the KTLA Weekend Morning News coverage of the event, visit https://ktla.com/2018/09/16/van-nuys-aviation-club-hosts-prop-plane-fly-in-event/
