A Message from the Airport Manager

As summer progresses, I am pleased to report that VNY continues to set the gold standard for safety, security, sustainability and service thanks to the ongoing efforts of the entire airport community.

Working in close collaboration with airport tenants, users and operators, VNY has steadily reduced the number of annual vehicle-pedestrian deviations against the national trend, with zero incidents involving a person or vehicle in 2018. While we are proud of this excellent record, we must remain vigilant in preventing unauthorized access to aircraft movement areas. In addition, VNY recently completed a multi-year security enhancement project that included major improvements to perimeter fencing, lighting and signage, plus a substantial reduction of high-volume access gates. We are also evaluating a recently-introduced low voltage LED lighting system for possible implementation.

As many of you are aware, reducing the impact of aircraft operations on the community remains a top priority. On June 13, VNY recognized 36 jet operators for achieving at least 99 percent compliance with all voluntary noise abatement programs during 2018. We also raised the number of tenants certified by L.A.’s Green Business Program to six, demonstrating VNY’s firm commitment to achieving sustainable airport facilities.

This summer also marks significant progress on the $26.3 million project to rehabilitate nearly 8,000 feet of Taxiway B and connector taxiways. This is the first of three projects over the next four years to ensure a minimum 20-year lifespan for Taxiways A and B, plus improve aircraft operating areas. In addition, Jet Aviation is making impressive progress on its new facility and The Park VNY has commenced construction of its final building, with both projects slated for completion in 2019.

I would also like to congratulate the dedicated members of VNY’s Airport Operations team for successfully earning the Airport Operations Diploma from Airports Council International. This program equips VNY to better manage the complexities of airport operations and provide world-class customer service.

Finally, I would like to express my deep appreciation for being honored with the National Air Transportation Association’s Airport Executive Partnership Award. This recognition is not mine alone and belongs to every individual at VNY who is helping to move the industry forward. Thank you for working together to contribute to our success!

Sincerely,

Flora Margheritis, C.M.
