LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS APPROVES RELEASE OF RFB FOR VAN NUYS AIRPORTS LARGE RUNWAY
(Van Nuys, California – July 9, 2012) Today, Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the release of the notice of Request For Bids (RFB), inviting bids for the pavement rehabilitation project for Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) large runway (16R/34L). Runway one six right stretches 8,000 feet and is the primary runway at VNY. The project includes rehabilitation of 6,800 feet of asphalt pavement using a combination of asphalt overlay and partial pavement reconstruction. The project also includes the widening of existing runway shoulders to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards, along with improvements to the aircraft run-up area and repairs to existing concrete runway pavement.

BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS SHARE SUPPORT OF THE REHABILITATION OF VAN NUYS AIRPORT’S RUNWAY 16R
(Van Nuys, California – June 20, 2012)  On Monday, the Board of Airport Commissioners shared their support of the agreement reached between Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the Van Nuys Airport Association to rehabilitate runway 16R.  The project will be completed in four phases and calls for ten days of complete runway closures, 26 nighttime runway closures and 65 days of shortened runway lengths.

UPDATE ON VAN NUYS AIRPORT (VNY) RUNWAY 16R REHABILITATION PROJECT
Los Angeles World Airports has embarked on a significant project that will greatly improve the condition of the main runway at Van Nuys Airport (VNY), 16R.  A great deal of thoughtful planning work has already been done, and we continue toward commencement of construction work sometime in 2013.

VAN NUYS AIRPORT ACHIEVES “ZERO NOISE IMPACT AREA”
            (Van Nuys, California – March 19, 2012) Van Nuys Airport (VNY) recently reached a milestone by declaring a “zero noise impact area” – meaning that within the current VNY noise impact boundary, there are no “incompatible land uses” (single and multi-family homes) that remain unaddressed by the airport’s sound insulation program.

VAN NUYS AIRPORT TO BEGIN IMPROVEMENTS TO PUBLIC OBSERVATION AREA LIMITED SEATING AVAILABLE WEEK OF MARCH 12

(Van Nuys, California – March 8, 2012)  Starting Monday, March 12, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) will begin making improvements to the public observation area located off of Woodley Avenue at the end of Waterman Drive, adjacent to the east side of the airfield. For the week of March 12, limited seating will be available, so visitors may want to bring their own chairs to watch aircraft take off and land.

Initial improvements to the observation area will include repainting the area canopy, followed by repainting the kiosks.

VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS INVITED TO APPLY FOR EDUCATIONAL MINI-GRANTS AND TO NOMINATE STUDENTS FOR YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARDS PROGRAMS SPONSORED BY VAN NUYS AIRPORT AND ROTARY CLUB OF VAN NUYS
(Van Nuys, CA)- Los Angeles Unified School District middle school teachers (grades 6-8) in the San Fernando Valley are encouraged to apply for three mini-grants to use for employing aviation and community service in their curriculum. Valley educators are also asked to nominate middle school students for Young Achievers awards recognizing leadership in academics, athletics, the arts and community service/leadership.

  (Van Nuys, CA)- Valley residents interested in learning more about the latest happenings at Van Nuys Airport and other Los Angeles World Airports facilities, and in having their voices heard about current issues, are encouraged to attend the March 5, 2012, Board of Airport Commissioners meeting. It will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Valley Municipal Building, 14410 Sylvan St., Van Nuys in the Council Chambers (second floor).

BOAC APPOINTS NEW MEMBER TO ADVISORY COUNCIL
 (Van Nuys, California)  The Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) has recently gained a new member – Cindy Goodfellow.  Goodfellow was appointed to the CAC in early November by the Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC), a seven-member entity that governs Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and stands responsible for the formation of airport policy.

INNOVATIVE TEACHERS AND EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS EARN CASH AND SAVINGS BONDS (Van Nuys, Calif. -- April 20, 2010) – The annual Teacher Mini-Grant and Young Achievers event awarded three educational grants and four student US Savings Bonds. The program provides one $500 grant going to LaRue Fernandez, one $300 grant going to Mark Rickersten, and one $200 grant going to Janette Lopez. Four top-achieving students will each receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. Los Angeles Unified School District middle school teachers (grades 6-8) were chosen to receive Teacher Mini-Grants to perform educational program ideas that include aviation and community service. Through the Young Achievers Program, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) recognizes and rewards exceptional area middle school students who excel in academics, athletics, the arts or community service. Parents, teachers, and community organizations gathered to honor the high-achieving middle-school students and innovative teachers in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Teachers and school administrators recommended 30 students for recognition. VNY, the Rotary Club of Van Nuys and Councilmember Tony Cardenas are sponsors of the Teacher Mini-Grant Program. “Congratulations to the students and teachers recognized today,” said Van Nuys Airport Manager Jess Romo. “It is spirit, drive and dedication like theirs that make our schools better.” Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
