Solar sustainability at Van Nuys Airport began in 2018 when Aeroplex/Aerolease installed solar on their newest hangar on the east side of the airport. At the same time, six other Van Nuys Airport businesses committed to adding solar. These solar projects put energy back into the grid to be used by others.





Solar Projects at Van Nuys Airport provide 12,714 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide Offset Equivalents equal to:

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

  • 2,728 passenger vehicles driven for one year
  • 31,524,749 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle

CO2 Emissions From:

  • 1,411,464 gallons of gasoline consumed
  • 1,232,189 gallons of diesel consumed
  • 69.2 railcars’ worth of coal burned
  • 29,041 barrels of oil consumed

Carbon Sequestered by:

  • 207,412 tree seedlings grown for 10 years
  • 15,368 acres of U.S. forests in one year
  • 85.8 acres of U.S. forests preserved from conversion to cropland in one year
